The "Student Initiative" is a group of Geophysics students who represent all german students involved in Geophyscs. We take care of the coordination between the german universities who offer Geophysics. Moreover, we have a seat in the managing board of the "Deutsche Geophysikalische Gesellschaft" (German Geophysical Society) with which we can activly co-decide on current geophysical issues.

To take on these tasks the student representation is divided into the following areas:

A working group is developing projects and collecting informations. To have a fast platform for communication for all Geophysics students, Thomas Hertweck established a mailing list some time ago. In the meantime the mailing list has over 500 subscribers from over 15 countries, students and former students. Information on job offers, the next GAP, or information on general information on the study of geophysics. If you are interested in this mailing list just follow the 'link to the mailing list'.

Projects

There were developed several projects and further projects are following. But also for the support and realisiationactive students are needed!

We are supported by the DGG and other organisations. But we are looking for new cooperation partners all the time.

Students Conference GAP
The Geophysical Activity Programme (GAP) is a conference for students from Germany and neighbouring countries. It is hosted by students by a different universities every year .  The aim of GAP is to bring together geophysics and geoscience students and to provide a platform for students to establish contact with relevant companies and research institutions. Excursions, workshops and talks from scientic and industry complete a wonderful long weekend.

Projects with Schools
Some projects related with schools are listed below:

  rent-a-student
We provide material for a presentation about the study of Geophysics at schools. Students can go to their former school and can give a talk about their study. On the german part of our website there is a script and some slides available for downloading. The project is funded by the DGG.
Poster & Flyer
You can download a poster and a flyer about the study of Geophysics in Germany (only available in german) on the german part of our webpage.

Public Relations
We use our webpage to provide lots of information for students and other interested persons. We are also using Facebook as a communication platform and to spread informations.

Information Network
We want to enhance the exchange of information between the geophysical institutes. We are working together with the 'Komitee Studienfragen' of the DGG. This is a long-term project due to the fact that there are always possible improvements.

Find us on facebook

We have found a facebook group for all geophysics students. It sould offer you the possibility to discuss about the study, ask question to other students or simply exchange news.
